For the record, here is the legend of the Nutcracker: an embittered peasant was looking for a way to crack his hazelnuts effortlessly and offered a reward to whoever would respond to his request. An old sculptor then made him a figurine designed to crack hazelnuts. The peasant was so enthusiastic about this figurine that his heart softened. It is said that the nutcracker had also broken the bark of his heart... The exact definition of the term "nutcracker" is given by the Brothers Grimm in 1830: "little deformed man, in whose mouth the hazelnuts are broken, by means of a lever or a screw”. These figurines represent gendarmes, hussars, but also more famous characters like Bismarck or Napoleon after his defeat at the Battle of Leipzig. It is also this same dancer figurine that is at the heart of Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky's magical ballet and which comes to life for the time of a dream on Christmas Eve.
